"Once again, we remind the wizarding community that only wands bearing the Department's stamp are guaranteed safe"
-- unnamed spokesperson from the Department of Magical Equipment Control (DP1)
The Department of Magical Equipment Control is a department or office in the Ministry of Magic which concerns itself with the many types of magical items and devices which exist in the wizarding world. This section regulates problems with equipment such as faulty wands and loose-bottomed cauldrons (DP1).

Notes
The actual position within the Ministry for this "department" is uncertain, since it is not listed among the main divisions of the Ministry in FB. This no doubt results from the fact that it was written about in 1998 (DP1) three years before FB (which for the first time listed the various departments of the Ministry of Magic). It may be an office on its own within the Department of Magical Law Enforcement.
Note also that, although not mentioned as one of the main Departments of the Ministry, the Magical Maintenance Department (OP7) does also use the name "department."
While the date printed on DP1 is 31 July 1998, the timeframe for these events is 1992-1993.
