One of Voldemort’s Horcruxes; a small, magical golden cup with two finely wrought handles, engraved with a badger (Helga Hufflepuff’s device) and inherited by the Smith family from Hufflepuff. (HBP20)
According to Hepzibah Smith, the cup in its own right possesses magical powers, but she also said that she had not thoroughly investigated the matter. Stolen by Tom Riddle after Hepzibah's murder; he planted a false memory in Hepzibah's house elf Hokey's mind so that she would be blamed for the death. (HBP20)
Voldemort entrusted the cup to Bellatrix Lestrange to hide in her vault in Gringotts. Harry, Ron and Hermione stole it and the Horcrux was destroyed by Hermione in the Chamber of Secrets, using a Basilisk fang, during the Battle of Hogwarts. (DH26, DH31)
