Half-Blood

A witch or wizard with at least one wizarding parent but at least one Muggle parent or grandparent.

• Tom Riddle had a witch for a mother and a Muggle for a father, but he also considered Harry to be a Half-Blood because his mother Lily was a Muggleborn, and therefore Harry's grandparents were Muggles on the maternal side(CS17).
• Severus Snape makes up the secret nickname "Half-Blood Prince" for himself due to his witch-mother whose maiden name was "Prince," and his Muggle father (HBP9, HBP28). Unlike Tom Riddle, who preferred to be called Lord Voldemort, Snape kept his Muggle last name as well as his parents' house in Spinner's End (HBP2).
• Remus Lupin's father was a Wizard and his mother was a Muggle (Pm).
