A tiny, mountainous country located between Austria and Switzerland, Liechtenstein is home to only about 33,000 people. Though it has not played a central role in Muggle history, it did have a place in wizarding history: the warlocks of Liechtenstein refused to join the International Confederation of Wizards at its first forming. Harry’s History of Magic O.W.L. asked why this was the case, though he never did come up with the answer (OP31).
The Liechtenstein National Quidditch team’s mascot is a large, gloomy Augurey named Hans. The bird has its own fan club. During the 2014 Quidditch World Cup, over-enthusiastic American fans kidnapped Hans, which prompted a high-level diplomatic crisis. The Liechtenstein team went down 140-120 to Chad on May 17, 2014 (Pm).
When Pierre Bonaccord was made the first Supreme Mugwump of the International Confederation of Wizards, his appointment was contested by wizards from Liechtenstein because of his views on troll hunting (OP31).
