The letter from the Weasleys is in an envelope literally covered with stamps, which annoys Uncle Vernon. Harry asks if he can go and Uncle Vernon is torn between not wanting to let Harry have something good and wanting to have Harry leave his house. After much hand-wringing and threatening, Uncle Vernon gives Harry his permission.
