Just before they begin their fifth year at Hogwarts, Hannah Abbott and Ernie MacMillan learn that they have been chosen as the two Hufflepuff prefects for their year (OP10).

Timeline Notes

Ron and Hermione are notified about being prefects on August 31 in OP9, so Hannah and Ernie probably receive their letters around that same time.

However, it is hard to determine the day of the week: Since we know from chapter 8 that August 12 was a Thursday, August 31 has to be a Tuesday. September 1, then, is a Wednesday, but we will discover in the next chapter that September 2 is not a Thursday, as one might expect after a Wednesday, but a Monday.
