Bill takes the job to better support the Order of the Phoenix in their struggle against the rising tide of Voldemort’s evil.

Bill took the desk job in Britain during the summer of 1995. While he did this to better support the Order of the Phoenix, the fact that Fleur Delacour had taken a job at Gringotts as well in order to improve her English was a strong motivation as well.
