Dumbledore apologizes to Harry, but he seems almost to apologize for loving him, as though he believes Voldemort has a point about love being a weakness. We know that Dumbledore believes Harry's ability to love, and to feel pain as he feels in this scene, is his greatest strength, so this is a surprising excuse. I guess it is necessary to understand how the enemy thinks.
