When Cornelius Fudge commands Shacklebolt and Dawlish to apprehend Dumbledore for (ostensibly) organizing an army to fight against the Ministry, he explains that he will not "come quietly," before stunning everyone but Harry and Professor McGonagall. He commends Kingsley, who is both a Ministry Auror and a member of the Order of the Phoenix, for quickly realizing that Dumbledore wishes for him to modify Marietta Edgecombe's memory, so that she is unable to contradict his story, which allows him to protect Harry from taking the blame for organizing the D.A. He instructs Harry to practice Occlumency every night, then makes his escape with Fawkes before Fudge, Kingsley, Dawlish, Percy, Umbridge, and Marietta stir.
