Etymology
Able is either a variant of Abel - from the Hebrew name הֶבֶל (Hevel), meaning "breath" (Behind the Name) - or from the English word able, "having the power, skill, means, or opportunity to do something", ultimately from Latin habere "to hold" (Behind the Name user).
A spud is English slang for a potato.
