Through the golden gates of the Atrium in the Ministry of Magic Headquarters, is a “smaller hall” that houses “at least twenty lifts” (OP7). The lifts are behind “wrought golden grilles” that slide back and forth as the lifts reach each floor. The lifts ascend slowly using rattling chains that make “a great jangling and clattering” noise. Paper aeroplanes used as inter-departmental memos use the lifts to travel from floor to floor. The same “cool female voice” that welcomes people at the Visitors’ entrance announces each floor (OP7).
"Jostled slightly by the crowd, Harry followed Mr Weasley through the gates into the smaller hall beyond, where at least twenty lifts stood behind wrought golden grilles. Harry and Mr Weasley joined the crowd around one of them" (OP7).
"With a great jangling and clattering a lift descended in front of them; the golden grille slid back and Harry and Mr Weasley stepped into the lift with the rest of the crowd and Harry found himself jammed against the back wall" (OP7).
"The grilles slid shut with a crash and the lift ascended slowly, chains rattling, while the same cool female voice Harry had heard in the telephone box rang out again" (OP7).
