Jocunda Sykes was the first person to ride a broom across the Atlantic Ocean (QA9, JKR, FW).
- She achieved this feat in 1935 on an Oakshaft 79. The broom had been developed by Elias Grimstone specifically to be able to travel for long distances and in windy conditions (QA9).
- Before that time, wizards would cross the Atlantic by ship, as apparition over such a long distance was unreliable and dangerous (QA9).
