Etymology
Maeve is the Anglicized version of the Old Irish "Medb" or Mab meaning "she who intoxicates."
Notes
In Irish mythology, Maeve was Queen of Connacht in western Ireland, and her story is told in the Cattle Raid at Cooley or The Tain, part of the epic Ulster Cycle.
Queen Mab was Queen of the Fairies in Shakespeare's "Romeo and Juliet."
