"Weasley cannot save a thing,
He cannot block a single ring,
That's why Slytherins all sing:
Weasley is our King." (OP19)
Weasley is Our King is the title of the song sung first by Slytherins – and then by Gryffindors – during Hogwarts Quidditch matches.
After Ron Weasley was appointed Keeper on the Gryffindor Team, Draco Malfoy wrote this song to undermine Ron’s confidence during Quidditch matches. He also made badges for people to wear, carrying the title (OP19). The song offended both Ron (‘he always lets the Quaffle in’) and his family (‘born in a bin’).
Slytherins kept singing the song after the first Quidditch match of the year, whenever Ron was in sight. The song was also sung by other characters, such as Luna (OP25) and Nearly-Headless Nick (OP20).
When Ron did much better at Quidditch in the final match of his fifth year, saving every goal, the Gryffindors turned the song around to sing: he didn’t let the Quaffle in (OP30). Gryffindor used the song again when Ron saved all goals in his sixth year (HBP14).
Weasley is our King (Slytherin version, OP19)
Weasley cannot save a thing,
He cannot block a single ring,
That’s why Slytherins all sing:
Weasley is our King.Weasley was born in a bin
He always lets the Quaffle in
Weasley will make sure we win
Weasley is our King.Weasley is our King,
Weasley is our King,
He always lets the Quaffle in
Weasley is our King.
Weasley is our King (Gryffindor version, OP30)
Weasley is our King,
Weasley is our King,
He didn’t let the Quaffle in
Weasley is our King.Weasley can save anything,
He never leaves a single ring,
That’s why Gryffindors all sing:
Weasley is our King.
When Ginny and Hermione decided on a code word to signal the return of Dolores Umbridge to her office, they chose "Weasley is our King" (OP32).
