"So how did the sword get in that pool?"
-- Ron Weasley (DH19)
A small, circular body of water located deep within the Forest of Dean. Snape’s patronus leads Harry to the lake from the campsite (DH33). Beneath the ice is the Sword of Gryffindor, which will not be summoned with magic. Harry dives into the lake to retrieve the sword, but the locket Horcrux starts choking him in the cold water. Returning after weeks away, Ron breaks the Horcrux’s chain and rescues Harry and the Sword of Gryffindor from the icy water (DH19).

Christian symbolism in the chapter "The Silver Doe" has been the subject of much conjecture, with many equating the silver doe with Christ and concluding that Harry's submergence represents baptism.
